(*…This video only shows the procedure for reinstalling this particular print head, as others have pointed out, it is not meant to be a DIY tutorial for print head cleaning, there are existing videos which illustrate cleaning. My tap water is naturally soft and exceptionally clean and filtered, however distilled or plain bottled water is recommended for any print head cleaning to avoid mineral deposits or corrosion. +++When flushing the head the best method is to set the print head in a container with about ⅛” of water or cleaning solution, let it soak briefly, then using an empty syringe with a bit of flexible tubing on the tip, keep the print head in the solution and draw some of the solution *into* the print head. If there are any clumps or clogs inside the print head, you don’t want to try pushing them out through the microscopic nozzles or the screen filters, you want to draw them back through the ink channels and out of the inlets, and excessive pressure inside the head will rupture the seal which separates the colors, resulting in color “bleedover”.+++ At this point I usually leave it to soak a bit more, then alternately *gently* push clean solution out, then draw clean solution through again until it runs clear. It’s basically your old blow-and-suck. I do the entire procedure with the print head suspended in a warm ultrasonic cleaner, but that’s not a necessity. Try to keep the rest of the print head dry while you do this. When you’re done, blow out the cable connector area (with canned air if you have it), set it on a clean paper towel and let the exterior and connector area dry thoroughly. When you reinsert the ribbon cables into the print head, make sure the contacts are clean and intact. Gently rubbing a pencil eraser over the tinned contacts will remove light corrosion. A fault in this connection causes the majority of 0x9a errors, and can possibly damage the print head or the main board…)
But beware! My 3640 has the same head, and I left it using pigment ink when I switched the 7610 to dye, and it only took a few short months for terminal clogging to crop up. I’ve read of this happening to other precisioncore microTFP printheads. I can see this easily going the way of some other Epson products with fatal flaws, where Epson strings people along until their warranty expires then says the customer is SOL. I wish someone would class-action these people and their dirty business practices.
My 3640 clogged in 4-5 months even though I had a test image printed out automatically every 2 days for its entire life!
I’ll be getting my printers from Costco whenever possible. Great deals come along once in a while, and there is a no fault lifetime return policy on most items. While electronics and computers are excluded (but Costco doubles the manufacturers warranty) Printers are, for the time being, exempt.
